Letter to the Union Stewards

March 13, 2020

TO ALL LOCAL 3000 STEWARDS AMID COVID-19 CONCERNS

LiUNA Local 3000 continues to focus on providing the most current and relevant information to our members.  As stewards and advocates, we want to make sure you have the support you need from us so you are well-equipped to help our members.

First of all, I would like to personally thank each of you for doing the work that you do every day.  Especially to all frontline healthcare workers, thank you, thank you, thank you.

We understand that many members are coming to you with questions regarding COVID-19.  The relevant information regarding the spread of the virus and protocol is changing hourly and there is a great deal of mis-information in circulation. The best advice you can give members who come to you with questions is to direct them to one of the following websites:

World Health Organization (WHO):

https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/advice-for-public

Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/index.html

Health Canada:

https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/coronavirus-disease-covid-19.html

For questions or concerns regarding employment issues relating to your specific workplace, please contact your union representative or our head office.

I would ask that you please forward this email to the Health & Safety Representatives in your workplace so they can share information and concerns with us if necessary.

On a final note, please take care of yourselves and each other. For some, the fear, stress and anxiety over COVID-19 may be as debilitating as contracting the actual virus. Please be mindful of this when communicating with the members. Our thoughts and feelings significantly impact our well-being.  Take a breath.  We know you are doing the best you can and we appreciate all you do.

In solidarity and with gratitude,

President/Business Manager
